Our Programs
The OWL Project
The OWL Project, is a trauma-informed, evidence-based initiative rooted in Positive Youth Development (PYD) and public health strategies. The OWL Project targets the root – social, emotional, academic, and economic drivers of gun violence, and it includes two integrated components: The SOAR Program & Project R.I.S.E.
The SOAR Program
The SOAR Program (Students Overcoming Adversity and Rising) is an afterschool prevention initiative serving children in grades 2-6 who have been exposed to gun violence. SOAR Activities include Academic Support: homework help and reading and math intervention; enrichment: creative arts, STEM, structured recreation; Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): weekly peace circles, journaling, restorative practices; violence prevention education: age-appropriate safety/conflict resolution workshops; and family engagement: monthly workshops on trauma, school involvement, and healthy practices.
Project R.I.S.E.

Empowering Young Men for Success
The Empowering Young Men for Success Summer Job Shadowing Program provides high school males in West Laurel with hands-on career exploration, mentorship opportunities, and academic skills. Over the summer, participants are paired with local businesses, organizations, and professionals to gain real-world work experience, develop essential job skills, and build the confidence needed to pursue their career goals. This program equips young men with the tools to break cycles of violence and poverty, opening doors to a brighter future.
Friday with Friends
Our Friday with Friends Summer Enrichment Camp brings elementary and middle school students together every Friday throughout June, July, and August for an afternoon of connection, learning, and fun. Through team-building games and activities, participants discover the value of friendship, cooperation, and kindness. Each session includes food, laughter, and memories that strengthen relationships and foster a positive, supportive community for our youth.
